Safety

SafetyWhen electricity is involved, safety is always the most important issue. Inappropriate or badly fitted electrical wiring can cause fire, injury or even death. 12,500 House Fires, 750 Injuries and 10 Deaths are caused each year by faulty electrics.

"DIY Electrics is one of the most dangerous jobs a non-qualified person can tackle" Regulations are in place to make sure that electrical installations are safe. These include the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Wiring Regulations BS7671 and also the Building Regulations in England and Wales. It takes a lot more knowledge and expertise than you would think to safely make changes to electrical wiring - Doing it yourself or getting an non-qualified person to do it is not worth the risk.

When thinking of having any work done on the electrics in your house it is important to make sure that the person completing the work is competent enough to do so and in most cases now it is a legal requirement for them to be registered and approved in order for the work to satisfy the Building Regulations.

You may experience difficulties in selling your house if the electrics or other parts of it do not comply with the Building regulations and you have the relevant certificates to prove it, in some cases you insurance may become invalid.
